The Anaheim Ducks have a big need for a defenseman, with only five signed on the cap-based roster list. They lost Scott Neidermayer to retirement, and he carried much of the offensive-defenseman load for the Ducks. Souray would absolutely be a welcome addition to the Ducks powerplay, provided he is healthy. Anaheim have $15mil of cap room, although resigning forward Bobby Ryan is going to eat up a good chunk of it…but nonetheless, they would still have room to absorb Souray’s $5.4mil cap hit. And being in Anaheim, in respect to proximity to Souray’s children, would be most welcomed by the player. But seriously folks, what would Anaheim be willing to give up for a defenseman who was passed up on waivers by 29 teams? The answer is, not much. Circle Souray to the Ducks as a possibility, but that being said, the only way the Ducks acquire Souray is if the Oilers will accept a salary dump from the Ducks. How about Jason Blake, with two years left on his $4mil cap hit per season contract? It could happen.
